Established 1779, Bowmore is the oldest Distillery on Islay Situated on the shores of Loch Indaal. The name, Both Mor means "Big House" Morrison Bowmore Distillers Ltd acquired the distillery in 1963 but is now owned by the Japanese company, Suntory. Bowmore is one of only five distilleries in Scotland to still produce its own floor malted barley which accounts for up to 40% of the distilleries requirements. Bowmore kindly donated a bonded warehouse to the village of Bowmore to be converted into a heated swimming pool which heated using hot water from condensers in the still room.
