Founded in 1817 by John Bulloch, the only remaining Lowland distiller to still practice triple distillation.
Founded in 1817 by John Bulloch, Auchentoshan is the only remaining Lowland distiller to still practice triple distillation. Although classified as a Lowland distillery, the water used to make this very nice single malt whisky is drawn from Loch Karine, some 35 km away in the Highlands. During an air raid in March 1940, the distillery was badly damaged and 53 butts of maturing whisky was destroyed. The cooling water for the distillery is taken from a WWII bomb crater near to the distillery. The name Auchentoshan means "Corner of the field" and contributes to Rob Roy and Ballantine's blended whiskies. Check out the Auchentoshan distillery.
Tasting note: Very much a Summer time dram that is light in body with a fruity soft floral finish.
